By now, you've probably had some time to get familiar with the new iOS 16 update. Here are 7 of our favorite new iOS 16 features that are sure to change how you use your iPhone.
1. Extract the Subject of a Photo
You can now lift the subject of any photo or paused video right out of the frame. Just tap and hold the subject of your image, then select Copy or hold and drag it. You can paste it anywhere that has access to your clipboard — like sending it to a friend via iMessage or pasting it into an email or note.
2. Unsend and Edit iMessages
iOS 16 introduced Undo Send, which lets you delete a sent message up to 2 minutes after it's sent. You can also edit messages up to 15 minutes after being sent. As of now, this feature only works through iMessage when the recipient is also using iOS 16.
3. Password Protect Your Photo Albums
Your Recently Deleted and Hidden photo albums now require Face ID or your passcode for access. This iOS 16 update effectively alleviates the need for third-party apps for secure photo storage, conveniently keeping all your media in one place.
4. Schedule Emails to Be Sent Later
This update allows you to set a specific time and date for an email to be sent. It ensures you never forget to send an important email and enables you to communicate more effectively with people in different time zones. Before a scheduled email is sent, you can also receive a reminder in case you want to cancel it.
5. Add Multiple Stops to Your Route in Maps
Apple redesigned the Add Stop feature in Maps with iOS 16. Add new addresses to your route, change the order of stops, and get a bird's eye view of your route in just a few taps — a long-awaited update that makes a big difference for everyday navigation.
6. Increase Your Peace of Mind with Safety Check
Safety Check was designed for scenarios where you need to quickly stop sharing sensitive information or personal accounts across multiple devices. The feature allows you to quickly regain control of your information and personal accounts when you no longer wish to share them. You can find it in your Privacy settings.
7. Live Captions in FaceTime
Try the new Live Captions (beta) feature on your next FaceTime call. Once activated, your iPhone will automatically transcribe everything the other person says on screen. Captions appear at the top of the screen and can be expanded by tapping the dialogue box — great for when you're having trouble hearing someone.
