Apple Watch Series 9: What's New?

Apple just unveiled the Apple Watch Series 9 with double-tap gestures, the powerful S9 chip, on-device Siri, and a new pink colorway. Here's what's new.

The tech world is abuzz with excitement as Apple unveils its latest innovation — the Apple Watch Series 9. Packed with cutting-edge features and enhancements, this smartwatch is set to revolutionize our daily lives. Here are four key things that make the Series 9 a must-have.

1. Double-Tap

The Series 9 introduces a groundbreaking new gesture: double-tap. Simply tap your index finger and thumb together twice on the hand wearing your watch to perform actions like answering and ending calls, stopping timers, snoozing alarms, and controlling music playback — all without touching the screen.

The magic behind this lies in a sophisticated algorithm leveraging data from the accelerometer, gyroscope, and optical heart sensor to detect the distinct hand movement. On the home screen, a double-tap opens the Smart Stack, and another double-tap navigates through widgets.

2. S9 Chip

The all-new Apple Silicon S9 SiP processor — the same chip in the Apple Watch Ultra 2 — boasts 5.6 billion transistors and 30% faster GPU performance, making animations and visual effects smoother than ever.

A second-generation ultra-wideband chip lets you pinpoint the distance and direction of your iPhone even from another room. The Series 9 also offers new HomePod integrations, giving you control over nearby HomePods as you approach them. Dictation accuracy has also improved by 25%, making voice transcription more reliable than ever.

3. Enhanced Siri Interactions

Powered by the S9 SiP's 4-core neural engine, Siri now processes requests directly on the watch — no cloud or cellular connection required. This means faster, more precise responses. There's also seamless Siri integration with the Health app, so you can ask things like "How many hours did I sleep last night?" or instruct Siri to log a workout. Initially available in English and Mandarin, with more languages coming.

4. Fresh Appearance

The Series 9 adds a new pink aluminum case to the lineup, joining starlight, silver, midnight, and Product(Red) in aluminum, plus gold and graphite in stainless steel. More ways than ever to make it your own.

The new Apple Watch lineup releases Friday, September 22. Whether you're upgrading or just want to refresh your current watch, a new band or our 2-in-1 Portable Charger for Apple Watch is a great place to start.
