This year's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) gave us a highly anticipated preview of the latest updates to the Apple Watch operating system. From health tracking breakthroughs to fitness upgrades and connectivity improvements, here are the watchOS 9 features we're most looking forward to.

Health

According to Kevin Lynch, VP of Technology at Apple, watchOS 9 will deliver on some long-awaited health tracking features that have the potential to completely change how we look at health data.

AFib Tracking

There are countless stories of Apple Watch users receiving lifesaving AFib alerts. With watchOS 9, your Apple Watch goes further — providing essential data after an AFib diagnosis to help you and your doctor track the condition over time. You'll be able to record time spent in AFib and view your data directly in the Health app.

Sleep Tracking

Sleep tracking on the Apple Watch has long left much to be desired. watchOS 9 finally delivers: you'll be able to track your sleep cycles, view detailed data on time spent in each cycle, and gain real insight into how you sleep.

Medication Tracking

The new Medications app lets you track your intake of medications, vitamins, and supplements. Log medications directly from your reminders and scan labels using your iPhone for quick setup.

Connectivity

The Apple Watch keeps us connected to ourselves and others. Here are the new interface and connectivity features coming with watchOS 9.

New Watch Faces

Apple announced four new watch faces in watchOS 9, plus updates to the Astronomy watch face — including readily available information on cloud coverage and lunar events.

UI Improvements

The Apple Watch user interface is being optimized for the larger screen sizes in the latest models. watchOS 9 also brings banner notifications and a new iPhone-style Siri interface.
