watchOS 10: Everything You Need to Know

Apple just announced watchOS 10, packed with redesigned apps, Smart Stack widgets, outdoor exercise upgrades, mental health tools, and more. Here's what we're most excited about.

Who's ready for the next iteration of the Apple Watch operating system?! Apple just announced watchOS 10 — a super exciting, fairly extensive upgrade packed with new features. Here are the updates we're most excited about.

Redesigned Apps and Enhanced Navigation

With watchOS 10, Apple has focused on giving you more information at a quick glance. Redesigned apps — including Weather, Stocks, Home, and Maps — offer new ways to view relevant data. The Activity and Fitness apps have also received notable improvements, making it easier to track daily movement, share progress, and access personalized workout tips.

The new Smart Stack is one of the most exciting additions. A simple turn of the Digital Crown reveals widgets that adapt based on the time of day, your location, and running apps — so you can enjoy a beautiful watch face while still having quick access to the information that matters most.

Outdoor Exercise Features

Cyclists will love watchOS 10's ability to connect to Bluetooth-enabled accessories like power meters, speed sensors, and cadence sensors, unlocking new metrics like cycling power and cadence to enhance your workouts.

For hikers, the upgraded Compass app automatically generates two waypoints: a Last Cellular Connection Waypoint for checking messages or making calls, and a Last Emergency Call Waypoint for emergencies. Apple Maps now also displays topographic maps with contour lines, hill shading, elevation details, and points of interest — making it easier to explore trails without pulling out your iPhone.

Promoting Mental Health

Apple has expanded the Mindfulness app in watchOS 10, allowing you to log momentary emotions and daily moods discreetly right from your wrist. The connected Health app in the new versions of iOS and iPadOS provides valuable insights into factors that may contribute to your state of mind, helping you take greater control of your well-being.

Other Noteworthy Updates

watchOS 10 also brings several additional improvements worth highlighting. NameDrop makes it easy to share contact info between Apple Watch users. FaceTime video messages can now be played directly on your watch, and Group FaceTime audio is now supported. The Medications app adds follow-up reminders for logging medications, and Apple Fitness+ introduces Custom Plans, Stacks, and Audio Focus to enhance workout and meditation experiences.

watchOS 10 will be available this fall to everyone with an Apple Watch Series 4 or later. In the meantime, grab a new band or check out our brand new 2-in-1 Portable Charger for Apple Watch — the best way to keep your watch charged on the go.
