Anyone who knows the struggle of being locked out of their account is going to want to read this. In iOS 15, Apple released the new Account Recovery Contact feature — a simple and effective way to back up your account access. Once set up, you can finally have the peace of mind of never being locked out of your device again.
What Is an Account Recovery Contact?
The Account Recovery Contact feature allows you to designate trusted contacts to help you regain access to your account if you ever forget your password or login details. When you need to use your recovery contact, you simply follow the onscreen instructions and Apple will send a recovery code to your designated contact. They give you the code, and you're back in.
You can also add more than one recovery contact for extra peace of mind in case you can't reach your first option.
How to Add a Recovery Contact
Setting up your recovery contact is easy. Just follow these steps:
- Make sure all your connected devices are running the latest software
- Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name at the top
- Tap Password & Security, then Account Recovery
- Tap Add Recovery Contact
- Select and add a contact
- Tap Send, then tap Done
- Wait for your contact to accept the invitation
After your contact follows the link and accepts the invitation, they'll be able to help you recover your account whenever needed.
Don't Wait to Set This Up!
Getting locked out of your account usually happens at the worst possible moment. Apple does have the iForgot system, but the Account Recovery Contact feature is far more reliable and straightforward. Set it up today and save yourself a massive headache in the future!
